About Whirling Disease Testing
DNA/PCR qualitative PCR (single and nested) and/or quantitative Real-time PCR for detection of presence of Myxobolus cerebralis, the parasite which causes Whirling Disease in Salmonids (salmon, trout).
In fish, BGS utilizes qualitative single and/or nested PCR or quantitative Real-Time PCR to diagnose the presence of Myxobolus cerebralis, the parasite that causes whirling disease in Salmonids (salmon, trout). The University of California has awarded a license to BGS for the use of Dr. Ron Hedrick, et.al. DNA based single and nested diagnostic tests for detecting the Myxobolus cerebralis organism.
